MSA Instrument Division’s SafEye Open Path hydrocarbon detection system allows precision
detection of combustible gases in both ambient and process applications, with path lengths of
3 to over 300 feet. Infrared energy is emitted by the source unit and received at the detector
unit. Any hydrocarbons that stray into the beam will absorb that energy, causing an upscale
reading at the detector. While both units must be powered with 24 VDC, no electrical
interconnect is required between them. Process applications include LEL detection inside of
large ducts, including solvent drying ovens.
